Our team

Mr. Richard Smith, the first president of Chroma Dance Competition, brings over 25 years of comprehensive experience in the competitive dance industry. His deep expertise spans every role within the dance community—from dancer to artistic director—giving him a nuanced perspective on the industry’s needs and dynamics. As Artistic Director of Inaside Chicago Dance since 2009, Mr. Smith has dedicated himself to cultivating excellence in technique, alignment, and artistic expression. His extensive background includes faculty roles at The Gus Giordano Dance Center, Joel Hall Dancers and Center, and teaching at universities such as East Carolina, Western Michigan, and Duke.

Throughout his career, Mr. Smith has mentored dancers who have gone on to perform with world-renowned artists, including Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and Justin Bieber. His commitment to artistic growth and inclusivity, combined with his vast knowledge of dance, uniquely positions him to lead Chroma Dance Competition into a new era of representation and excellence.
